Soulac  is a charming family resort on the Gironde coast, a 1½ hour drive north of Bordeaux, (flights from Gatwick, Bristol, Southampton, East Midlands, Liverpool, Luton, Manchester and Dublin), or a 6 hour drive from St Malo, via the Royan-Pointe de Grave ferry. The town centre dates from the late 19th century with many period villas, but the UNESCO Heritage Site church, Notre Dame de la Fin des Terres was built in the 12th Century to welcome pilgrims on the route to Compostella. The main street has a range of shops from beach toys to glamorous clothing and home décor. The Cinema Oceanic occasionally shows English language films.

Soulac has a supermarket, and a wonderful covered market in the town centre open daily until 1pm. There are restaurants to suit all tastes in Soulac, including the very informal Brasserie de la Plage on the beach.
